The astronauts who make the NASA's human mission to Mars -- planned for the 2030s -- will do so aboard a podlike Lockheed Martin vessel known as the Orion, NASA announced. Officially known as the Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, the capsule is based on a moon-mission design and will house four astronauts for a six-month trip. Before the vessel goes to Mars, however, the U.S. plans to use it to send humans to a large asteroid.
