About 33% of owners who travel by car with their canine companions report being distracted by their pets while driving, according to a "doggie distractions" fact sheet that was compiled based on the results of a study presented by American Automobile Association and a company that manufactures canine harnesses. In recognition of the perils associated with driving with unrestrained pets, AVMA is promoting seat belt use for dogs as part of its "Please Show Some Restraint" campaign.
