Teachers should give students taking a trip abroad, or to other locations with their families, some homework questions to respond to, says sixth-grade teacher Bill Ferriter. He suggests teachers ask students to respond to questions about their trip in a journal while on vacation. Ferriter recently assigned the homework to two students who were competing in a soccer tournament in Sweden, asking them to describe new food they were eating and observing the people who live there.
