The Elmbrook School District in Wisconsin began a program this year to help students in special education make the transition to life after high school. Project STRIVE -- Specialized Transition, Recreation, Independent Living and Vocational Experiences -- has students with cognitive disabilities learning life skills in an apartment classroom and on trips throughout the community. "It's about the students learning and learning what they can do for themselves," special-education coordinator Sara Murdoch said.
