Achieving reliability-centered maintenance isn't easy, writes Jerry Browning, but implementing a successful RCM strategy is the key to broader asset-management success. You'll inevitably have to start slow and build a backlog of equipment histories and service reports, but over time you'll be able to introduce sophisticated computerized maintenance management systems, collating and processing the data you need to make optimal asset-management decisions. "A company needs a vision of where it’s going and how to get there, other than a few rows and columns on a budget spreadsheet," Browning writes.
