Data on 117 patients with type 2 diabetes found that those who consumed 75 grams of mixed nuts daily for three months had better low-density-lipoprotein rates and reduced levels of hemoglobin A1c levels by up to 0.21%, compared with those who ate an equally protein-rich muffin. The findings in Diabetes Care suggest that eating two ounces of nuts in place of carbs may help improve glycemic control and serum lipids in patients with type 2 diabetes.
