Uncertainties regarding crop yields and the possible elimination of the ethanol blender's credit led to a lack of confidence in the agricultural economy on the part of agribusinesses, according to survey by an agricultural information service based in Omaha, Neb. The Department of Agriculture predicted a 9% increase in the use of corn for ethanol production this year, but the possibility that Congress may end the blender's credit has many farmers unsure of the future of corn. Late planting also has some farmers concerned about this year's corn crop coming up short.
