Federal agencies, lawmakers and groups of physicians are seeking to address the shortage of drugs for cancer and other life-threatening diseases fueled by contamination problems and capacity issues at drug manufacturing plants, among other problems. The Obama administration is debating setting up a national stockpile of vital cancer medicines. Meanwhile, lawmakers introduced a bipartisan bill in Congress that would give the FDA the authority to require drugmakers to provide early warnings of problems that could disrupt drug supplies.
