A study of 82 patients with diabetes undergoing coronary artery surgery found that those who were on aggressive glucose control were more likely than moderately controlled individuals to experience hypoglycemic events. About 75% of the aggressively managed group suffered from surgery-related hypoglycemia compared to 10% of the moderately controlled group. The findings were presented at the annual meeting of the American Surgical Association.
