New legislation introduced in Congress would boost the study of Down syndrome. The two bills, which would create six centers across the country dedicated to Down syndrome research, are aimed at correcting what backers say are inequities in federal research funding that is currently provided for autism and other conditions, but not Down syndrome. The legislation has been introduced by Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, whose son has Down syndrome.
