Roche Holding CEO Severin Schwan said he believed the pharmaceutical sector was "only scratching the surface" when it comes to discovering drugs tailored to the needs of individual patients and expects more targeted drugs to emerge as there are more than 2 million proteins in the body that might be explored for potential drug targets. "We have a huge potential with our targeted therapies and believe that this strategy is working," Schwan said. Roche is working on several drug candidates, including Metmab, its experimental treatment for lung cancer, and lebrikizumab, its drug candidate for asthma.
