Manufacturers shipped 5.2 million LCD panels optimized for 3D television in the second quarter, an increase of 124% from the first quarter, according to a report from DisplaySearch. Nearly 5 million of the panels were destined for 3DTVs, as the percentage of LCD televisions that support 3D doubled from 4.5% to 9.3%. Analysts say the numbers show that 3DTV is defying market challenges such as high costs and an absence of available content by continuing to log slow but persistent growth.
