A study in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that the demand for health care services from safety-net hospitals and community health facilities in Massachusetts increased, even as the passage of the state's health care legislation in 2006 led to a rise in the number of insured individuals. The findings suggest that universal health coverage can be achieved not only in Massachusetts, but also in other parts of the country that have invested in large public health care systems.
