In today's tight lending climate, "the banks want to see a track record, a history of growing same-store sales, sustainability, transportability, and they want to understand the concept," said commercial banker Will Powell. And that is making it harder for franchisees who only want to own one to five locations and easier for large, multi-unit franchisees. The trend is particularly evident as U.S. restaurant franchises turn their attention to larger franchisee partners.
