The percentage of antibiotics prescribed for children ages 14 and younger decreased 24% from the 1993-1994 period to the 2007-2008 period, CDC researchers reported. However, they said the antibiotic prescription rate is still "inappropriately high," noting 58% of prescribed antibiotics during 2007 and 2008 were used to treat acute respiratory infections even though such drugs were mostly unneeded.
