When owners seek a veterinarian, they should look for good communication, how well the veterinarian interacts with patients and addresses health issues, along with up-to-date hospital technology and services, say Carl Ware, chief operating officer of Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital in Snohomish, Wash., and veterinarian Carin Smith. They also note that veterinary education standards are high, so as long as a veterinarian attended an AVMA-accredited school, he or she will be equally knowledgeable on diseases, treatments and procedures.
