The peak season for intermodal volume could begin this week, according to Union Pacific Chief Financial Officer Robert Knight. The anticipated peak season for intermodal follows volume growth of 0.4% to about 1.18 million containers and trailers in August compared to the same period in 2010, according to the Association of American Railroads. The Class I's other operations such as shipments of oil from the Bakken Shale region, chemical items, farm and industrial commodities "are doing quite well," Knight added.
