Lawmakers' efforts to revamp Medicare should include revised medical-liability laws that limit noneconomic damages in malpractice lawsuits, the Healthcare Leadership Council wrote in a letter to Congress' "supercommittee." Lawmakers also should include a "fair share" rule to ensure damages are based on the defendants' responsibility for an injury, HLC said. The group wants proposed changes to allow Medicare participants and the industry to share the cuts that could result from changes to the program.
