An informal online poll of Michigan residents found that 49% of 275 respondents said they would give up meat to improve their health and treat heart disease, while 36% said they would eat more vegetarian food but still include meat in their diet. Dietitians said people who give up meat must have a carefully planned menu to ensure they get enough nutrients, and that those who want to go vegetarian or vegan should talk with a nutritionist first.
