Milwaukee NICU nurse supervisor Jackie Sevallius has been caring for critically ill infants since 1980 and says the fast-paced work requires critical thinking skills, time management and attention to detail. She has seen advancements in technologies that keep babies alive, such as monitoring equipment, respirators, high-tech IV pumps and synthetic surfactants, but says she still gets emotional about her small patients and cries with families when an infant dies.
