The U.S. ethanol industry is "already meeting many" of President Barack Obama's objectives when it comes to generating jobs and promoting innovation in renewable energy, according to Bob Dinneen, president and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association. The industry accounts for more than 400,000 jobs; produces enough ethanol to displace all of the oil the U.S. buys from Venezuela and Saudi Arabia; and has overtaken Brazil as the world's top ethanol exporter, Dinneen writes. To maintain the industry's ability to create jobs, policymakers must reject efforts to weaken the Renewable Fuel Standard, adopt plans to improve the fuel infrastructure and boost investments in new biofuel technologies, Dinneen adds.
