Brazilian researchers who studied SPECT MPI scans for 2,225 female patients between March 2004 and October 2007 found that the imaging method enhanced prognostic data relating to myocardial perfusion and left ventricular ejection fraction, thus helping improve prediction for the risk of death. The scan helped to reclassify about 8% of patients as high-risk for adverse events and 10.6% as low-risk for such events, according to the study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Cardiovascular Imaging.
