When the time from door to balloon exceeds the normal standard, nearly two-thirds of the time the fault for the delay is that of the referring facility, a new report published in the journal Circulation found. Minnesota-based authors Dr. Timothy Henry and Dr. Michael Miedema found that the sickest patients are the ones typically with the longest delay times and highest mortality rates. Still, the authors found, improvements in process at non-PCI centers should aid patients.
