The risks of developing heart failure increase for people who smoke or who are overweight or obese but decrease for men and women who get moderate exercise and eat their veggies, researchers at Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, La., reported in the journal Circulation: Heart Failure. Lead author Dr. Gang Hu suggested that half of new heart failure cases in the study population may have been prevented "if everyone engaged in at least three healthy lifestyle behaviors."
