Indoor cats aren't immune to certain diseases that can be prevented by vaccines, including the highly contagious panleukopenia virus, which can survive on surfaces for a year or more and shuts down a cat's immune system, says veterinarian Bill MacArthur. Dr. MacArthur recommends a combination vaccine for panleukopenia and two other viruses that attack the respiratory system, as well as rabies vaccines, for all indoor cats.
