It's easy to make snap judgments in heated situations, so stop and think a moment before you fire an employee who has messed up -- even if he or she appears to have engaged in behavior for which you have a zero-tolerance policy, Jeff Haden writes. "While you can bring an employee back on after you make a mistake, no one will ever forget what happened -- especially the employee," he writes. Also, get to the point when telling an employee he no longer has a job, and don't argue after you've let him go, he writes.
