Android's broad support from a range of handset makers helps the phone operating system maintain its wide lead over Symbian and Apple's iOS in the Asia-Pacific region, says Canalys research analyst Jessica Kwee. In the second quarter, Android accounted for about half the shipments of mobile devices in the region, while Symbian devices made up 25% and iOS 18%, according to data from IDC China. Kwee said one of Android's advantages is that the phones tend to be more up to date and advanced than its Apple counterparts.
