Allowing children to keep their shoes on as they pass through airport checkpoints creates little risk to security, according to the Transportation Security Administration. New guidelines allow children who appear to be 12 or under to keep their shoes on, at the discretion of the TSA. Eventually the TSA may abolish the shoe-removal rule for everyone: it is seeking proposals that will give its shoe-scanning technology explosives-detection capabilities.
