In women with gestational diabetes mellitus, maternal glucose levels and body mass index may predict neonatal adiposity in male and female infants, respectively, experts reported in Diabetes Care. Researchers studied 84 women with GDM and found that a 0.1 mmol/L increase in mean maternal fasting blood glucose levels led to a 0.44% fat increase in male infants, while a 1 kg/m2 increase in maternal pre-pregnancy BMI was associated with a 0.11% fat increase in female infants.
