When high-school student Zak Kukoff ditched class, it took the school two days to notify his parents. The incident gave Kukoff an idea for an automated text-message alert system that he says would help to keep students in class and save schools funding that they lose when students don't show up. While the company, TruantToday, so far has no revenue, it has signed up three customers and is nearing the end of a $500,000 round of angel investment.
