Work on demolishing the Elwha Dam and the Glines Canyon Dam in Washington state -- a project billed as the "largest dam removal in the U.S." -- is steadily progressing. Excavators equipped with large hammers are used to tear down the dams. Destroying both dams involves removing 24 million cubic yards of debris and sediment and breaking up and recycling 37,000 cubic yards of concrete.
