Three Midwest U.S. senators are part of a bipartisan group introducing a bill to raise payments to rural hospitals, physicians and other providers. Sens. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) and Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) support the Craig Thomas Rural Hospital and Provider Equity Act intended to help hospitals with a large share of patients who rely on Medicare and Medicaid, rural hospitals with a low discharge volume and providers in underserved areas.
