People infected with the Helicobacter pylori bacterium were more than twice as likely to develop diabetes, a study of 1,800 older Latinos found. Another study revealed that the bacterium was positively associated with hemoglobin A1c levels in patients, indicating it may play a role in impaired glucose tolerance. The findings were presented at the annual meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
