Children who went to bed late and woke up late were 1.5 times more likely to become obese compared with children who went to sleep early and woke up early, according to an Australian study in Sleep. Researchers analyzed the sleeping patterns, weight and activity of 2,200 children ages 9 to 16 and found that the night-owl teens were twice as likely to have a sedentary lifestyle.
