The ViaSat satellite that's set to launch Wednesday from Kazakhstan will increase the speed of satellite broadband services for 1 million customers in the U.S. and Canada tenfold, according to WildBlue, which expects to begin offering the service in early 2012. Theoretical maximum download speeds will reach 12 megabits per second, although satellite customers in parts of the Midwest and the Rocky Mountains will still be served by the old WildBlue satellite, which will top out at 5Mbps.
