A bill in the House of Representatives that seeks to alter the corn-ethanol requirement in the Renewable Fuel Standard is "ill-advised," said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. The RFS2 "is an opportunity for the country to wean itself off of foreign oil and to build a domestic industry with new job opportunities in rural America as well as increasing income levels for farmers and producers," Vilsack said. "We're moving away from a sole reliance on corn-based ethanol, so I think [the bill is] also ill-timed," Vilsack added.
