Children ages 2 to 4 who were diagnosed with regressive autism manifested accelerated head growth and brain enlargement, according to a study in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Researchers examined the results of the MRI scans and found that the total brain volume in 3-year-old boys with regressive autism was more than 6% bigger compared to typically developing peers.
