Children should help with meal preparation as a way to encourage them to try new foods, and parents should focus on healthy food and exercise rather than calorie counts, dietitian Crystal Witte told parents and students at the Hampton Roads International Montessori School in Newport News, Va. Her presentation, which included tips on healthy foods, was part of the school's "Practical Life" curriculum that includes nutrition education to help develop self-care and confidence.
