Fueled by its free NFL Sunday Ticket promotion, DIRECTV increased its U.S. base by 327,000 subscribers in the third quarter -- double the number that analysts had predicted -- as sales rose 14%, the company reported. DIRECTV also said that it had extended by three years its deal with AT&T in which the carrier provides satellite video as part of a bundled package with residential broadband and voice service in many areas where the telecom's U-verse TV service is not offered.
