Weekly consumption of five or more servings of processed red meat may elevate type 2 diabetes risk, a study in Diabetes Care showed. Researchers studied 66,118 healthy French women and found that 1,369 developed the disease after a 14-year follow-up, with the highest incidence in those who had the highest intake of processed red meat. However, unprocessed red meat did not appear to increase the risk of diabetes, experts said.
