Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is defending criticism from rivals over comments he made in 2007 opposing bilingual education. During a speech to the National Federation of Republican Women, he said students should only learn in English. Gingrich apologized for the remarks, but an adviser to one of his opponents said the incident would cost the GOP Hispanic votes if he became the nominee.
