Using infrared photoelectrical optical systems to monitor wear and tear on mechanical chains is more accurate and less time-consuming than monitoring chains through visual inspections or regular sampling, writes Rod Reinholdt. Once an infrared photoelectric instrument is set up on a machine, maintenance professionals can receive continuous feedback on the status of an entire length of chain, and perform maintenance tasks only when they are truly needed, Reinholdt explains.
