A study of 51 women who underwent breast reconstruction with autologous abdominal tissue found that they felt better about themselves as soon as three weeks after the procedure. "The really exciting thing about this particular study is the idea that we can show the impact of breast reconstruction on improving quality of life in women with breast cancer," said researcher and ASPS member Dr. Andrea Pusic. One of the questionnaires used in the study was developed with the support of the Plastic Surgery Foundation.
