British researchers are conducting two clinical trials to explore the best combination of red blood cells and plasma that can be administered to trauma patients. Initial findings indicate that a 1:2 ratio of plasma to red blood cells may be "as good as if not better" than a 1:1 ratio, said lead researcher Karim Brohi of the Barts and The London Trauma Centre.
