Wal-Mart shoppers may soon be able to establish fleeting in-store social networks, communicating via their mobile devices to offer opinions and share shopping advice. "The primary value you'll get is the community feel," says Ravi Raj, vice president of product at @WalMartLabs, which is working on the concept. And coming in time for the holiday season is a Wal-Mart service that makes gift suggestions based on Facebook friends' profiles.
