The evolution of machine-to-machine technology offers avenues for growth for mobile providers, and AT&T is making headway, numbers show. Glenn Lurie, president of AT&T's Emerging Devices division, says the company added 1.5 million connected devices in the third quarter, thanks in part to falling prices for 3G modules. Lurie says the average price for 3G components has dropped by half, tempting more device and appliance manufacturers to get connected.
