A minority of hospitals regularly use preventive methods for catheter-associated urinary tract infections, according to a study in the Journal of General Internal Medicine. In contrast, researchers found, as many as 90% of hospitals expanded their efforts in preventing central-line-associated bloodstream infections as well as ventilator-associated pneumonia between 2005 and 2009.
