Thousands of native Iraqis assisted American forces during the invasion and occupation of the country, and all were promised a spot at the front of the line for special permission to immigrate to the U.S. However, most are still waiting for the slow visa process to unwind, afraid they will be harmed by their countrymen, some of whom see them as traitors. The process has been hampered by the recent arrest of Iraqi refugees plotting with terrorists.
