Prosecutors say a San Francisco-area man stole the identities of a doctor and a physician's assistant and performed liposuction and other cosmetic procedures at a bogus cosmetic surgery practice. "We need to inform patients to choose plastic surgeons who are truly certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons," ASPS member Dr. Tony Youn said. Prospective patients should ask doctors to show their credentials, confirm those credentials and ask their state medical board for about any disciplinary actions against the doctor, said Garry S. Brody, a professor emeritus at the division of plastic surgery at the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine.
