The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says 2011 has brought a dozen weather-related events that caused damage of $1 billion each, surpassing the number of such disasters for all of the 1980s. A Wunderground.com meteorologist's estimate, based partly on an Aon Benfield analysis, however, shows that more events may need to be added to the list: an October snowstorm, flooding from remnants of Tropical Storm Lee, and some thunderstorms and tornadoes during the spring and summer.
